Biography

I am a playwright, poet and creative facilitator based in Derbyshire.

My work investigates place, identity and sexuality.

I am currently seeking a producer for the future development of Bonfire, a new dance-theatre piece exploring the threats young LGBTQ+ people face online for the sake of affection. It tells a story on resisting shame and dancing your heart out, flitting between comedy and confession, embarrassment and epiphany, and sheds light on a generation who were not only digital natives, but left to it alone in the wilderness.

The initial development process of Bonfire was commissioned by In Good Company’s July 2019 Artist Support Fund, supported by Arts Council England, an artist residency with Déda and charity Derbyshire LGBT+.

Description:
Bonfire is a new piece of theatre exploring the threats young rural LGBTQ+ people faced online for the sake of affection. Bonfire tells Leon’s story – a young man resisting shame and dancing his heart out, flitting between comedy and confession, embarrassment and epiphany – and sheds light on a generation who were not only digital natives, but left to it alone in the wilderness. Bonfire is best-suited for small-scale studio touring, as well as dancefloor equipped spaces. Its target audience is aged 16-35 and the piece explores LGBTQ+ themes, alongside online grooming & grief.
